Her-Story in the Making
This series illustrates the injustices I have experienced and witnessed as a woman living in a patriarchal society. The visuals are meant to be thought provoking. They may be offensive to some, comical, relatable, and shocking to others. While these ideas are political in nature, they are not far off theories to be discussed philosophically. These are real-life experiences and they are personal to me. There are days when I keenly understand that leaving my house as a woman is a political act. My hope is that these feminist paintings create dialogue. Sharing my personal narrative and seeing viewer’s responses remind me that I am not alone. Historically since the beginning of civilization as we know it, women have been treated unfairly. The time has come where women are demanding change. The first step is to recognize there is an imbalance. Sharing my struggle has been immensely beneficial to me and those around me. Women need to share ideas in order to better communicate and then, advocate for change. The strides women have made towards equality in recent times is undeniably thrilling. I am sure that by telling my story and encouraging women to tell their stories, we will be making Her-story. Our stories together are Her-story in the making.
